The Shocking Facts about Sugar You Need To Know!

by - May 14, 2018

As good as it may taste, and even if it may “feel” like your friend when it comforts you because of the beta-endorphin rush in your brain, it is time to accept that sugar is NOT our friend…

Simply put: regular consumption of sugary foods may just be one of the worst things that you can do for your health, taking a devastating toll on your health in the long run. And sadly our sugar consumption grows considerably every year!

From 1700 to 2012 the sugar consumption increased from 4 pounds of sugar per person per year to 1/2 pound of sugar PER DAY, making it whooping 180 pounds of sugar per person - per year.

The most commonly consumed form of sugar by children is high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which is highly addictive and contains fructose and glucose. Although these are NOT bound together, as they are in white table sugar, for example, the body doesn’t need to break them down. Meaning, the fructose is absorbed immediately, going straight to the liver, which turns it into fat - contributing to weight gain.
*Fructose is a type of simple sugar that makes up 50% of table sugar (sucrose)

Fructose cannot properly absorb insulin hence it stimulates the ghrelin - the “hunger hormone” but suppresses the leptin - the “satiety hormone”. This results in overeating and developing insulin resistance (type 2 diabetes).

Excess intake of any processed sugars results in weakened immune function by decreasing the white blood cells’ ability to destroy bacteria and contributes to obesity, and diabetes. Keep in mind that sugar is HIGHLY addictive!

It has been proven that the sweet taste of sugar is more rewarding than the high of cocaine. Sugar produces dopamine − a happy, feel-good chemical − in the brain. This is why people get addicted to eating sugar. After a few days of cutting out the sugar, the human brain will begin to produce dopamine on its own, BUT the discomfort of the transition process of cutting down on sugar can be difficult and hard to resist.

You can look at a biscuit and see it as sweet, delicious, satisfying, crunchy and yummy. But you can also look at the same biscuit and understand that it is full of processed sugar, saturated (bad) fats. That although it might satisfy the mind, it won’t make your body feel good now, nor in the future. It has zero nutritional value on offer, only empty calories, while in fact its an anti-nutrient food. This means that not only it doesn’t provide any nutrition for you it also needs extra nutrients from the body, basically robbing your body of its essential micronutrients in order to be digested.

When you look at the biscuit this way, you are more likely to have your inner voice, your consciousness to step out and choose differently. Because hey, that juicy mango is equally as sweet while it can help to protect you from cancers due to its antioxidant compounds that protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. Mangos also help lowers cholesterol, are beneficial for skin and eye health, and alkalize the whole body.

Did You Know?
Have you heard of cases when cancer patients cured themselves with clean - raw diet? Avoiding white sugar, brown sugar, agave and so on… It is no coincidence, this is because cancer feeds on sugar.

  • Brown Sugar is white sugar mixed with molasses.
  • Raw Sugar is not really raw. It has been cooked, is a little better than refined white sugar.
  • Agave nectar is made from the agave plant, which is a cactus. But agave is HIGHLY processed and is approximately 80% fructose (much higher than honey and maple syrup).
  • HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) is 55% fructose and 45% glucose. It is mostly genetically modified. Stay away!

The GOTO sugars:
  • Coconut sugar is made from the sweet watery sap that drips from the cut flower buds of the coconut palm. It has a low glycemic index (GI) and is rich in amino acids.
  • Xylitol is a sweetener extracted from corn or birch cellulose, it is slowly absorbed, does not cause a rapid blood sugar increase, and does not require an immediate insulin response from the body to be metabolised.
  • Honey is approximately 50% fructose, but in natural (raw and unpasteurised).
  • Stevia is an extremely sweet herb, which is completely safe (in its natural form). 100% organic green stevia in its natural state is what you want.
